REVOL RENOVATION

EST. COMPLETION: WINTER 2024

The Revol addition is a radical change to an existing single-family home; one new master bedroom and one new bathroom needed to be added for the homeowners growing family. The forested property located in the heart of Merivale Gardens (inside Ottawa’s greenbelt) provided ample opportunity to transform the connection between outside and inside, currently being blocked by an ill-placed previous addition. On top of providing the needed added function to the house, the challenge was to not add any new square footage due to it not being allowed under the zoning provision.

WEILER ADDITION

EST. COMPLETION: SUMMER 2023

The Weilers needed to expand their home in order to have a larger kitchen and a space to host guests, children, and grandchildren. The original sunroom in the back of the house was no longer functional and was boarded up. The Weilers wished to connect their living space with their yard more harmoniously on top of adding an extra kitchen, mudroom, powder room, and laundry room. An elegant shape was proposed to meet the existing profile of the roof, while ample fenestration and a curved deck gently lead the passerby from the front to the rear yard, and finally to the relocated patio at the centre of the lawn.

EST. COMPLETION: FALL 2023

SHARIFF ADDITION

In the heart of New Edinburgh, the Shariffs wanted to expand on their recently completed addition by Christopher Simmonds (first floor seen in rendering above), a local legend in architecture. MIA was to provide the design of a new Master Bedroom, the re-organization of the existing bedrooms, and a re-imagining of the dining and living space on the ground floor level, all while honouring the existing design. A second storey was added with a similar window motif and a continuity of exterior materials.
